Sargent Properties
Designed and built a real estate platform from scratch — brand, web presence, and tenant portal — wearing every hat from strategy to QA.

Overview
Real estate is a notoriously friction-heavy process — paperwork, hidden problems, a maze of steps and stakeholders that most people only navigate a handful of times in their lives. I've been investing in real estate since 2008: tax liens, rental properties, fix-and-flips, raw land. The operational side — finding properties, managing tenants, handling inbound leads — had always been manual and disconnected.
Sargent Properties is my answer to that: a purpose-built platform for my own real estate operation, designed with the same care I'd bring to a client product.

The Challenge
Running a small real estate portfolio as a solo operator means wearing every hat. The operational problems I was solving for:
- Lead generation — motivated sellers and prospective tenants need an easy way to find and contact me, without going through a broker
- Tenant management — renters need a portal: a place to pay rent, submit maintenance requests, and access documents
- Brand credibility — a professional web presence signals legitimacy in a space where trust is everything
There was no off-the-shelf product that handled all three without platform lock-in, opaque fees, or features I didn't need. Building it myself was the right call.
Approach
I approached this the same way I approach any client work: brand first, then experience, then build.
The brand needed to feel trustworthy without feeling corporate — approachable enough that a homeowner in distress would feel comfortable reaching out, professional enough that a prospective tenant would feel confident signing a lease. Clean typography, grounded color palette, straightforward copy.
The web build followed the same principles I use for client sites: hand-coded, no CMS dependency, deployed through a modern CI/CD pipeline. The codebase is maintainable by me alone, which is the right constraint for a solo operation.
The tenant portal design prioritized the two tasks tenants do most often — pay rent and submit a maintenance request — and made everything else secondary.
Role
Every role: strategy, brand design, UX, visual design, frontend development, QA, copywriting, and ongoing maintenance. The kind of project that's only possible because 17 years of building at the intersection of design and code means none of those hats feel foreign.
Outcome
The site serves as the inbound hub for both sides of the business — motivated sellers can reach out directly, and prospective tenants can find available properties and apply. The tenant portal is actively in use.
More than the product itself: this project is a live proof of the Sargent Design thesis. A solo operator, with good process and the right tools, can build and ship something that would have required a team of specialists a decade ago.
